Who can participate in Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouts is open to all children, boys and girls, in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Parents also take an active part in the Pack by helping with meetings and events and serving in Pack leadership roles. 

How does Scouting work?
There are 6 Dens based on grade. 

  • Kindergarten: Lions

  • 1st Grade: Tigers 

  • 2nd Grade: Wolves 

  • 3rd Grade: Bears 

  • 4th Grade: Webelos

  • 5th Grade: Arrow of Light 

Each Den works on achieving age-appropriate milestones to reach their Rank each year. Activities focus on the 12 character traits of Scouting (i.e. honesty, resourcefulness, health & fitness, perseverance, etc.) with a focus on teamwork and developing outdoor skills. 

What activities do we do?
Dens typically meet twice a month to work towards their Rank. Requirements for each Rank are outlined in the Scout Handbook and at Scouting.org. Scouts earn belt loops or pins (based on Den) to mark their achievements, which are proudly worn on their uniforms. Each meeting starts with an oversee where we have a flag ceremony & review the Scout law & oath, then each Den does their own independent work until we come back all together for closing.

Occasionally, Dens have fun field trips to places of interest to the children, such as a fire or police station, local hiking trails and other locations in the local community.  

We host optional Pack-wide traditional Scouting events like camping trips, Raingutter Regatta (boat race), the Pinewood Derby (car race). We also march in the Memorial Day parade, do fundraising by selling popcorn, and participate in volunteer & community opportunities. There are also other one-off activities available to the Pack, such as sports games, nature outings and summer activities.

We are ready to join. How do we do it?

  • Register your child with Scouting America Registration Link and pay the Scouting America yearly registration fee.

  • Get a Class A Scout uniform: Scout Shirt, Belt, Neckerchief & Slide, Pants (optional), Hat (optional), Handbook (optional). We do a uniform exchange at the first meeting.

  • Pay annual Pack dues to support Pack-wide activities.

  • Join the BAND app where we communicate important information and announcements to the Pack.

You’ll need to get the following patches to go on the uniform: Patches needed: 

  • Helpful hint:  purchase this special double sided tape to attach patches easily (no sewing).

How should I participate as a parent in Scouting?

There are opportunities to participate in different ways based on your availability and skill set. Our Pack is fully run by parent volunteers so we need parents to pitch in to ensure we run a fantastic program for our Scouts! Please reach out to Szymon (Cubmaster) or Zoe (Committee Chair) to discuss the best opportunity for you to help out.

  • Attend meetings & participate with your child if required including overseeing your child’s behavior if needed. Volunteer to lead Den activities (there is a guidebook for each belt loop/pin) at a meeting or two. Please remain quiet during the opening and closing ceremonies to encourage the Scouts to do the same.

  • Sign up for one-off volunteer opportunities when they become available. For ex, food shopping for camping events, running food & activity stations at events, helping set-up or clean-up at events, etc.

  • Join a sub-committee to help plan events including Camping, Raingutter Regatta, Pinewood Derby, service projects, summer activities, etc.

  • Become a registered & uniformed leader through Scouting America to take on an official role to lead your child’s Den or become part of the Committee that oversees and operates the pack.

  • Become trained in basic outdoor skills with Scouting America by attending an overnight training at a Scouting facility out east. We need at least 1 BALOO trained adult at each camping trip.

  • Take the online Safeguarding Youth training to ensure that our Pack is well-versed in proper conduct,
